Unreal 3 Engine Gets The Steam Effect
|
Steam ju
nkies, Unreal fiends and general gamers alike, I have some exciting news for you. Epic Games, creator of the Unreal and Gears of War series, have banded together with Valve. "Almost their entire collection is on Steam already, what else could they do?", you might ask. You'll only find out if you hit the jump. Do it, it's what all the cool kids are doing.
Can Software Rendering Dominate Current Graphics Cards?
|Tired of seeing flat surfaces on objects that are supposed to be round in your games? A new graphics technology seeks to smooth round edges without the need for super powerful computers. That screenshot above could be rendered in real time on a phone without a hiccup. How is this possible and why isn't it everywhere? Hit the jump to find out. There's also a video.
Start Registering for the Final Fantasy XIV Online Beta
|Did you enjoy Final Fantasy 11 online? I personally found it to be one of the most boring games I've ever been convinced of buying and paying monthly for. That's just me, though. It's still going strong today and we even have a few community members still playing it on and off. Apparently they addressed the boring parts, but I won't believe it until I see it. What about the new Final Fantasy MMORPG you ask? Hit the jump to read more about it and sign up.
Don't Have Mass Effect 2 Yet?
|Amazon.com is having a deal today on Mass Effect 2 for both PC and Xbox 360. So in case you were waiting for the game to go down in price or you rented it and want more after your rent was up, here's your chance to snag this amazing game.
New Nvidia Drivers Give Your GPU a Good Boost
|PC gamers with Nvidia hardware are likely to be pleasently surprised with the latest driver update. Not only does it have a large list of fixes, it also gives a pretty good performance increase to several well known games. For example: "Up to 30% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with single GPU".
I've had some problems keeping Battlefield: Bad Company 2 running with SLI enabled. This update seems to address those issues so when I get home I'll definitely load them up. Check out the full list of features after the jump.
Forgotten Gems of Gaming: Dungeon Keeper
|
Have you ever wanted to try being truly evil, but don't want to risk losing potential friends in real life? Are you like me and have a hard time listening to the horrible things you can say in games that give you a choice between saying something good or evil? If so, the Dungeon Keeper series is probably worth a shot since you have no choice but to be evil. What's Dungeon Keeper you ask? If you haven't played it, chances are you haven't heard of it, but it's definitely worthy of the title "Forgotten Gem of Gaming". What was so great about the series and what happened to it? Find out after the jump.
Mount & Blade: Warband Pre-Orders Started
|Kings, queens, knights and noblemen, I bring news from afar that you can now begin pre-ordering Mount & Blade Warband. The game is available on Steam, but I guess Impulse got first dibs on it since I don't see a pre-order button on the Steam store page yet. Why should you spend your cash on a multiplayer version of this game? Well multiplayer isn't the only feature that was added to it. Hit the jump for a whole list of features and links.
Batman: Arkham Asylum 75% Off!
|Super hero games have a history of being anywhere from sub-par to absolute crap. Rocksteady showed the gaming world that at least Batman doesn't have to be on a non-playable DVD to kick-ass. 75% off means that Arkham Asylum is only $12.50 for the PC version. There's a catch though. You can only get this amazing deal at the Games for Windows Live store. Even with this little inconvenience, I still highly recommend this game. Even those of you who don't care for super heroes should get it.
Check back March 5th for a new crazy deal though.
Awesome Steam Deals
|Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter was reviewed by Ag3nt and was highly recommended. The game is currently on sale on Steam and is 50% below even the Couch Athletics Suggested Retail Price (CASRP for short). It's a fantastic cooperative experience and I'd be willing to go through it all again with up to 16 players.
The History of Hammerfight, which was reviewed by Boss1000, is also on sale and has matched the CASRP he suggested. I will be picking it up for sure since I've always wanted to try it but never got around to it. The demo is also up on Steam so if you're not sure if you want to hand over $5 for it then give that a whack and see what you think.
More great deals after the jump!

Can anyone in Couch Athletics or the rest of the internet actually confirm this? My inbox remains empty, but someone should get one. Leave a comment if you snag a beta key today.
