2011 brought us many great games, but it also brought us a few flops. I won’t focus on the minor games that rated poorly, but instead, two games that I had high expectations for that could have been so much better. I was a huge fan of both, and somewhere along the developing stages the ball was dropped or thrown into a whole different court.

Alas, we have come to the end of the year. There have been a lot of good memories and bad memories in the world of gaming. I prefer to keep the good memories close as many others would do. We've gone over many games this year and have even decided which games made the honorable mentions list, but what games made my top three? There are quite a few to choose from, but here are the games that made the cut.

It's almost over! 2011 seems to have flown by pretty quickly, bringing us a boatload of games as the year began. Which were good? Which were flat out awful? We'll be going over all of that, but first, let's take a look at the games that just didn't quite make the favorite list for me this year. They weren't necessarily bad, but they don't really deserve going back to. These are the honorable mentions.

Last week, we discussed the Star Wars games for the NES. We didn't touch too much on the Atari copies of Star Wars because there wasn't too much to go over. Basically, if the game involved space, Atari was all over it. Most of the Atari games focused on one key part of the movie, whether it be the destruction of the Death Star or gunning down ATAT walkers. The Nintendo copies of Star Wars took us all over the place (literally). The Super Nintendo helped put a new spin on the trilogy and give us the pizzazz that we were looking for. So when the Nintendo 64 was released, there wasn't a whole lot we could do with Star Wars other than rebuild it again. This is where creative minds got together and formed a different story to the trilogy. It's the creation of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.

There is no real argument about whether or not Star Wars is one of the greatest stories ever told. It was a trilogy that amazed the minds of many youngsters as well as adults. These films reached out and entertained just about everyone, and very few films can do just that. When Star Wars was first released in 1977, there was no doubt that everything was going to suddenly turn into a Star Wars frenzy. While we know there were toys, posters, shirts, and Star Wars cookbooks (which I own) made, we're focusing on what is important to every game out there – Star Wars video games.

Dungeons! They seem to be everywhere this year. So far I’ve been through Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale, Dungeon Defenders, and Dungeons of Dredmore. That doesn’t even count the dungeons I’ve explored in the various MMO games that I’ve been playing or the dungeons I’ve traveled through in Skyrim. There are so many dungeon style games to count, but there is an important one to always remember. I present to you Dungeon Master and Dungeon Master II.

I'm about to break a hundred hours in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and I don't think I've even scratched the surface of this game. With another 100 hours, I may have just half of the world completely explored. Too often I find myself jotting down a “to do list” to keep myself from wandering off on some path that is going to only get me lost on a line of other quests. That may come off as a complaint, but rest assured – losing yourself with the world of Tamriel is a joyous experience that will have many changing their vacation plans to staying at home instead of other activities. Curse you, Bethesda!
