We’ve discussed how imagination can completely change the way we see a game. We now continue down that path as we look at other games that just didn’t have that great of a look themselves, but held so much more through a child's eyes. Gauntlet I & II are perfect examples of that type of game. Even with subpar visuals, these games have stood up to the test of time. This is one series that started off small, remained small, and ended up a huge success. Feel free to don your wizard cap and robe as we venture into Gauntlet.

As I sit and eagerly wait the arrival of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, I try to think back to where my love for swords, sorcery, and the greatness of the RPG genre began. I've played a massive amount of medieval, fantasy, and futuristic role playing games, but where did it all begin? There has to be a reason why I like the aspects of a role playing game more than other games, such as first person shooters or strategy games. Each time I flip over a game, I can still remember further back to another game. As I whittled my list down, I came across one game that stumped me. There was no game before it. That game was titled Gateway to Apshai.

If you know me by now, you know I'm a sucker for anything zombie related. When I saw the Dead Island trailer, I thought that it looked amazing, the storyline seemed solid for what it's worth (dealing with zombies and all), and the ability to play co-op with your friends sounded great as well. So why wouldn't I want this game? Let me count the ways.

Adam Jensen from Deus Ex: Human Revolution wasn't the first augmented warrior to enter the fray of a crumbling city on the brink of takeover. Nor was J.C Denton from the original Deus Ex. The mixture of machine and human dates farther back than I can really remember. What I do remember, though, was being blown away when I saw Robocop for the first time. He may not have been the first, but he was the first for me. He may have also been the first to actually do the whole augmented thing correctly. Some may give shout outs to The Terminator for being the first, but Arnie was more robot than human. After Robocop hit the big screen, we had a period of time where everything was Robocop related – even video games.

There are a few people that I wouldn't tango with in a dark alleyway. The same goes for warehouses, office complexes, or anywhere with a lot of boxes and dumpsters. Adam Jensen is one of those people. Luckily, in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I get to take control of Mr. Jensen and rough up some people as I make my way around various cities to find “The Truth.” For the past few months I've been incredibly pumped for this game's release. I had it pre-purchased and pre-loaded while I excitedly waited. Did that wait pay off? Let's take a look.

There are times when something comes out that blows everyone’s mind. It’s is a perfectly structured masterpiece that contains minor flaws, if any at all. We all stand there in awe, wondering how such a thing could exist. Deus Ex is such a thing. It is a perfect recipe with the right amount of this and that. Its combined elements are woven together like a golden quilt crafted for royalty. Deus Ex is a game that sucks its players in and holds their attention at every turn as the story unravels. The list of good games may be long, but very few games make the legendary list. ...

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm done with zombies for the time being. After a dish of Dead Rising 2, Atom Zombie Smasher, Trapped Dead, and Dead Horde – I'm dead tired of anything that groans and moves slowly. Therefore, I'm taking a break from my zombie enjoyment by moving to the next best thing to kill and that would be dinosaurs. I'm taking the role of a time-traveling Native American who shoots dinosaurs with arrows and whatever other crazy weapon he can find. If you haven’t guessed it, I'm playing Turok: Dinosaur Hunter for the Nintendo 64. ...
